On January 23, teachers of Shenzhen Polytechnic led by Chen Qiuming the vice president went to the University of North Carolina (UNC) Chapel Hill Campus for a 21-day training program "Training Class for Faculty of Modern Teaching Philosophy" and successfully finished all the training tasks. A total of 18 teachers and administrators from schools such as electromechanical engineering, foreign languages, economics and construction engineering participated in the training program.
The training program was reviewed and approved by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs. After preparations of nearly one year, a systematic arrangement was made by the International Education School at UNC for the trainees. The training contents covered the curriculum provision and modernized integrated course construction, credit system, the cultivation of students' innovative capability, development and management of internationalized strategies, organizational structure and human resource management methods. employed at American colleges and universities. They also participated in several in-depth communication activities with local Chinese students. The training team also made use of free time to visit internationally famous universities such as Princeton University, Columbia University and Duke University and understand their campus culture and management; they visited North Carolina State University, William Peace University, WakeTech Community College and Durham Technical Community College, comparing and learning about the teaching and management philosophy of these institutes and had productive in-depth talks with leaders and related principals of these schools. The training team was warmly received by Doctor Li Bailian, the vice president of North Carolina State University, Doctor Scott, the president of WakeTech Community College, Doctor Ingram, the president of Durham Technical Community College and leaders of William Peace University, who had promoted this exchange.
This time the training encountered rare severe snow storms in America, but the poor weather did not hamper the enthusiasm of the teachers. The willingness to learn and active class atmosphere of the trainees left a deep impression on the hosts. Though the training was not long, all trainees had an in-depth exchange with professors of famous American universities and had a deeper understanding of the American teaching philosophy through their personal experience.
The training team will share their gains with the faculties of Shenzhen Polytechnic in the form of seminars, picture exhibitions and training summary documents.
